Overview
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is an extra layer of security for your online accounts. It requires you to provide two different types of identification to verify your identity when logging in. Typically, this involves something you know (your password) and something you have (like a code from your phone). Enabling 2FA significantly enhances the security of your Sonix account. Even if someone manages to obtain your password, they will still need the second factor (the verification code from your device) to gain access. This makes it much harder for unauthorized individuals to log in.
Important Note
The authenticator app is linked to a specific device. This means that each device (such as your smartphone or tablet) should have its own authenticator app installed and set up.
Step-by-Step Instructions
To Enable Two-Factor Authentication on Your Sonix Account:
Log in to Your Sonix Account:
Open your preferred web browser and go to the Sonix login page.
Enter your email address and password.
Click the "Sign In" button.
Access the Two-Factor Authentication Settings:
Download and Set Up Google Authenticator:
If you don't already have it, download the Google Authenticator app from your device's app store (Google Play Store for Android or App Store for iOS).
Install the app on your mobile device.
Open the Google Authenticator app.
Tap "Begin Setup" or a similar option to add a new account.
Choose "Scan a QR code."
Scan the QR and Enter the Verification Code:
On your Sonix account's Two-Factor Authentication settings page, you will see a QR code.
Using the Google Authenticator app, point your phone's camera at the QR code on your computer screen to scan it.
Once the code is scanned, the Google Authenticator app will generate a six-digit verification code.
Enter this verification code into the designated field on the Sonix Two-Factor Authentication settings page.
Common Issues and Troubleshooting
Are there things I need to do before Enabling 2FA?
Yes, before enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), it's essential to ensure you can successfully receive emails and complete the password reset process. If you're unable to receive the password reset email, we strongly recommend resolving any email or account-related issues first to avoid the risk of being locked out of your account.
What should I do if I get locked out of my account due to Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)?
This can happen if you repeatedly enter incorrect verification codes or if the codes expire. Verify that you are using the latest code from your Authenticator app and that your phone's time is correct. If you still encounter problems, please contact Sonix Support.
What if my phone dies or I lose it?
To regain access to your account, please contact Sonix Support so we can disable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on your account and help you re-link it.
What should I do to switch my 2FA to a new device?
If you're switching to a new device (phone or tablet) and want to receive your 2FA codes there, start by downloading the Authenticator app on your new device. Log in, then go to the menu and select "Transfer accounts." Choose "Import accounts" and follow the instructions to complete the transfer.
Why am I being asked for a 2FA code when I try to log in from a new device or browser?
This is a security feature. When you log in from an unrecognized device or browser, the system prompts for a 2FA code to ensure it's really you trying to access your account. Use your Google Authenticator app to generate the code and enter it.
My Google Authenticator app isn't generating a code. What should I do?
Make sure the app is properly installed and has not been deleted or reset. If it is installed but not showing a code, try restarting your phone. If the issue persists, reinstall the app and rescan the QR code, or contact Sonix Support to reset your 2FA setup.
I entered the correct 2FA code but it says it's invalid.
Verification codes are time-sensitive, so be sure to enter the code promptly before it expires. If you’re still getting an “invalid code” message, it may be due to a time mismatch. Check that your device’s date and time settings are set to “Automatic” or synced with the network to ensure accurate code generation.
