Important Notes
Heatmap Sensitivity May Vary by Audio Quality: Transcripts from poor-quality audio (e.g., background noise, overlapping speech) may show more low-confidence words, even if the transcription is mostly accurate.
Not All Light Words Are Incorrect: A lighter color indicates low confidence—not necessarily an error. Always use context to decide whether a correction is needed.
Language and Accent Impact: Strong accents or non-native pronunciation can reduce confidence scores, even if the words are correctly transcribed.
Best Used with Manual Proofreading: The heatmap is most effective when paired with human review—it's a supplement, not a substitute for editing.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Open your transcript in the Sonix editor.
Find the thermometer icon in the top navigation bar and enable it.
Once the heatmap is activated, the words in your transcript will change color. Lighter-colored words indicate that Sonix has a lower confidence in their accuracy and may need review.
You can also check the overall quality of your transcript by going to File > Transcript Quality. There, you can see how many words in your transcript Sonix is not confident about.
Common Issues & Troubleshooting
I can’t see the heatmap or thermometer icon. Where is it?
Make sure you’re in the transcript editor view, and check that the menus aren’t hidden by clicking the arrow in the upper-right corner of the editor, just below the Export button. The heatmap icon is located in the top navigation bar within the editor interface. If you’re not in this view, the option may not appear.
All words look the same color. Why aren't any words flagged?
This could happen if the transcript has uniformly high confidence or if the heatmap isn’t enabled. Try toggling the heatmap or refreshing the editor to make sure it’s activated properly.
Does the heatmap automatically correct errors?
No, the heatmap is a visual aid only. It highlights words with low confidence but doesn’t make corrections. You will need to manually review and correct those words.
Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly does the heatmap show?
The heatmap shows the confidence score for each word in the transcript. Lighter-colored words are those with lower confidence, meaning they are more likely to be incorrect.
Can I use the heatmap on any transcript?
Yes, the heatmap feature is available for all transcripts within the Sonix editor, unless it’s altered or disabled in future updates.
If I correct a flagged word, does that improve the confidence score?
Editing a word will correct the transcript, and the heatmap will update based on the current transcript’s accuracy. However, the system doesn’t “learn” from the edit in real-time. The confidence score is recalculated, but Sonix doesn’t adjust its models based on individual corrections.
Is there a video demonstration of how the heatmap works?
Yes, you can watch this short video that walks you through the heatmap’s usage: https://youtu.be/0iEhqnyk-rA
