Important Notes

  • Auto-pause is optional and must be enabled in your transcript’s preferences.

  • The playback will pause as soon as you start editing, and resumes ~2 seconds after you stop typing.

  • This feature is useful when you want to make edits while listening without manually controlling playback.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open a transcript in Sonix using the online editor.

  2. Look for and click on the Preferences menu within the transcript view.

  3. In Preferences, locate the Auto-pause when typing and toggle in on. Ensure to click ‘Save Preferences’

  4. From then on, when you start editing, audio playback will pause automatically. When you stop editing, playback will resume after ~2 seconds.

Common Issues and Troubleshooting

Why isn’t Auto-pause working even though I turned it on?

Make sure you actually saved the setting in Preferences. Also check that you're in the correct transcript.

The audio doesn’t resume after I stop typing.

It should resume after ~2 seconds of no typing. If it doesn’t, try refreshing the page or disabling then re-enabling Auto-pause.

Can I use Auto-pause only for some transcripts?

Currently, when the Auto-Pause feature is enabled in Preferences, it applies to all transcripts in Sonix. It’s not possible to enable it for specific transcripts only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Auto-pause work for all media formats?

Yes, as long as the transcript is in the Sonix editor. The feature is independent of the audio file format.

Can I override Auto-pause manually?

While editing, auto-pause takes over playback control. You can always manually pause or resume, but editing will pause it again.

Can I use Auto-pause while reviewing highlights or comments?

No. Auto-pause only triggers while actively editing text. Navigation or viewing comments will not pause playback.

Will Auto-pause slow down transcription editing?

Not at all. Auto-pause is designed to make editing easier, since you don’t need to constantly toggle play/pause while making corrections.
