Important Notes
Spelling suggestions or corrections rely on your browser’s built-in spell check (e.g. Chrome, Firefox) when editing in Sonix.
Accuracy of spell checking depends on browser settings (language, dictionaries, whether spell check is enabled).
Step-by-Step Instructions
Open your transcript in Sonix and enter edit mode.
Make sure your browser’s spell check is turned on:
In Chrome: Settings → Languages → Spell check → enable browser spell check.
In Firefox, Safari, or other browsers: locate similar preference settings and enable spell checking.
As you type or edit, misspelled words will generally be underlined by the browser.
Right-click (or use your browser’s context menu) on underlined words to view suggestions and correct them.
Common Issues and Troubleshooting
Why am I not seeing any spell check underlines in my transcript?
Probably because your browser’s spell check is disabled or the language/dictionary isn’t set correctly. Check your browser’s settings to enable spell check and ensure the correct language is selected.
Some words seem spelled correctly but are shown as wrong (or vice versa)?
This can happen if your browser’s dictionary or language setting doesn’t include certain proper or technical terms. You might need to add custom words or switch dictionaries.
Will Sonix automatically detect which words are incorrect?
No. Sonix relies on browser spell checking. It does not have an internal feature that flags or suggests corrections. However, Sonix does show word confidence / accuracy ratings (via the heatmap) to help you see which words may have been transcribed less reliably.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I enable spell check in Sonix without using my browser’s spell check?
Not currently. Sonix doesn’t offer its own built-in spell check; you’ll need to use the spell check tools built into your browser.
Does Sonix provide any indication of possible errors in the transcript?
Yes. Sonix has a heatmap feature that shows word accuracy/confidence. Words with lower confidence will be visually distinguishable, which can help you spot parts of the transcript more likely to contain errors. To access this feature from your transcript, click the thermometer icon to show confidence colors.
Are some languages’ spell checks better supported than others?
Spell check quality depends on your browser’s support for the language and how strong its dictionary is. If the browser has a good dictionary for the language you’re using, you’ll get better results.
