Important Notes

  • Translation in Sonix requires an initial transcription—you must first convert your audio or video into text in its original language.

  • Translations are machine-generated and available in minutes.

  • You can edit the transcript before translating to improve accuracy.

  • The quality of the transcript directly affects the quality of the translation.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Upload your audio or video file to Sonix.

  2. Select the language spoken in the file under What language was spoken? and click Transcribe.

  3. Edit the transcript using Sonix’s online editor to correct any transcription errors.

  4. Once you're happy with the transcript, click Translations > Translate transcript to a different language in the top menu and choose the language you want to translate the file to.

  5. Sonix will generate the translated version within a few minutes.

Common Issues and Troubleshooting

Why can’t I see the option to translate?

Make sure your file has been transcribed first. The Translations menu is available inside the transcript editor, and it will only appear once the transcription is complete. Open the transcribed file to access the translation options.

What can I do if the translation is inaccurate?

For optimal translation accuracy, you must edit & correct your transcription prior to translating to another language. This is because our translation engine uses the text to translate, not the audio.

Can I translate directly without transcribing first?

No. Transcription is a required first step before translation.
