Important Notes
Transcriptions and translations are generated as separate files in Sonix.
You can view the translation together with the original transcript in the Sonix editor using the Globe icon.
The translation is displayed above the corresponding original-language subtitle.
This view is available in the Sonix editor, but the original transcript and translation cannot currently be exported together as a single file.
Editing the original transcript does not automatically update the existing translation.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Log in to your Sonix account.
From your Dashboard or Home page, select the transcription you want to translate.
Open the Translations menu and select the translation you want to view.
Open the translated version in the Sonix editor.
In the editor, locate the subtitle you want to compare.
Click the Globe icon in the options above the speaker's name.
The corresponding original-language transcript will be displayed with the translated subtitle.
Repeat the process for other subtitles as needed.
Common Issues and Troubleshooting
Why can't I see the Globe icon?
Make sure you have opened the translated version of the transcription in the Sonix editor. The Globe icon is available in the options above the speaker's name for each translated subtitle.
If you still don't see the Globe icon, check the following:
Make sure you are viewing the translated version, not the original transcription.
Make sure the subtitle has not been split in the translated version. Splitting a translated subtitle can remove the connection to the corresponding original-language subtitle, which may prevent the Globe icon from appearing.
Refresh the page and reopen the translated file if the icon is not displaying as expected.
Why can't I see the original transcript for a translated subtitle?
The Globe icon displays the original-language text corresponding to the selected translated subtitle. If the corresponding original text is not available, check whether the translated subtitle was split or modified in a way that broke its connection to the original subtitle.
If necessary, open the original transcription separately to confirm that the corresponding text is available.
I edited the translated subtitle, but the original text shown by the Globe icon didn't change. Why?
This is expected. The original transcription and translation are separate files. Editing the translation does not change the original transcription, and the original text displayed through the Globe icon will remain unchanged.
I edited my original transcription, but the translation didn't change. Why?
Changes to the original transcription are not automatically applied to an existing translation. If the original transcript has been significantly changed, you may need to create a new translation to reflect those changes.
Can I use this feature to edit both languages at the same time?
No. The Globe icon is intended to help you reference and compare the original transcript while viewing the translation. Changes to the original transcript and translation need to be made separately.
Can I export the original transcription and translation together?
No. The original transcription and translation are currently separate files and cannot be exported together as a single combined file from Sonix.
If you need both languages in a specific layout, you can export them separately and combine or format them using another application such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I view my original transcription and translation side by side?
No. Sonix displays the original text and translation together by subtitle, with the translation displayed above the corresponding original-language text. It is not currently available as a traditional left-to-right, side-by-side view.
Can I edit the translation?
Yes. You can edit the translation directly in the Sonix editor. However, changes to the translation will not change the original transcript displayed through the Globe icon.
Will editing my original transcript update the translation?
No. The transcription and translation are separate files. Changes made to the original transcript will not automatically update the existing translation. If you need the translation to reflect changes made to the original transcript, you may need to create a new translation.
Does the Globe icon translate the transcript?
No. The Globe icon does not create a translation. It allows you to view the corresponding original-language text while working with an existing translation.
Why is the original text displayed below my translation?
Sonix displays the translation and its corresponding original-language subtitle together in the editor so you can compare the two versions. This is part of the translation viewing experience and does not mean the two files have been merged.
